João VRC

Hello! Welcome to my website. It is still under construction while I organize my body of work, but some of them are already below:

Passo a Passo ("Step by Step")

Troca de Rostos ("Face Swap")

Computational algorithms and automatic photographic editing systems allow ever more convincing alterations. Among the possible effects, is the replacement in the photo of a person's features with those of another. Wearing a mask made from face cutouts, this same mechanism is used to replace the image with itself repeatedly until the system is unable to recognize a human countenance.

Reprodução Automática ("Autoplay")
São Paulo, 2020
Video - 00h10m00s

Online video platforms use the autoplay mechanism to point users to more content at the end of what has already been consumed. This suggestion is calculated from behavioral data collected and attributed to a given individual. When these are not available, this same mechanism can guide the visitor through unexpected paths.

Nó Cego ("Dead Knot")
São Paulo, 2019

A dead knot is unstable, unreliable, and should never be used. It is usually difficult to undo on purpose, but it can easily come off on its own. In Brazilian Portuguese, the term is used as a popular expression to characterize a difficult problem to solve or someone who refuses to cooperate.
